Maine high court upholds state’s wind farm permit law

Boston Globe -- PORTLAND, Maine — The state’s highest court yesterday upheld a law that aims to hasten the permit process for wind farms in the state.

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court unanimously rejected arguments from the Friends of Lincoln Lakes nonprofit group, which challenged the Department of Environmental Protection’s approval of a 40-turbine wind power project on Rollins Mountain in Penobscot County.

We want alternatives but usually not in my back yard. We need to find solutions to get us into the future.

It seems like certain people want alternative energy to be developed, but they always want it developed "somewhere else".

Curlypooh;
It may be free, but just as with solar power, the government doesn't know how to tax it.
There's enough wind coming out of Washington, and has been for the last year or so, to provide enough power to power the U.S. for the next century.

They may be loud, but we are going to have too look to the future and get away from coal plants to generate our electricity.

My son has windmills very close to where he lives in Northern Maine. If they come to your area, get a good supply of earplugs. The only placed they should be is offshore...

A major wind farm should be built surrounding Washington, DC. It'll provide constant sure-fire power from all the blowhards.

NIMBY strikes again.

What about all the birdies the blades will kill.

I suppose PETA will be at the base with their first aid kits, patching them up.

EcoNutz.

Build one nuke plant and many wind farms would be unnecessary.

Until the grid is updated, multiple power sources can only be used locally.

I do hope that wind farms won't become as prevalent as billboards as we cross the country. America the beautiful could turn into America the ugly.
