Maine high court upholds state’s wind farm permit law

Boston Globe -- PORTLAND, Maine — The state’s highest court yesterday upheld a law that aims to hasten the permit process for wind farms in the state.

The Maine Supreme Judicial Court unanimously rejected arguments from the Friends of Lincoln Lakes nonprofit group, which challenged the Department of Environmental Protection’s approval of a 40-turbine wind power project on Rollins Mountain in Penobscot County.

I think every billboard should have a wind turbine or PV panels.

kelsielee: as long as there are NIMBYs who think they get a better deal some other way, somehow, there will be battles.

I wonder if every state is going to have to fight these battles - one at a time as people object to the specific location of wind farms.

Wind and solar are there for us to use, but yet we continue to put it off and fight against it. The need to conserve is still here and both of these will help with this.

and I'm looking into wind turbines to generate small electric amounts for yard lighting. Considering the wind is currently blowing at about 35 mph, that would make for some nice gains even with a backyard windmill...

as soon as I can get the money back that the contractor owes me, I will have a battery of solar power put out... plenty of free energy.. and then I'll sit back and wait for the generation of cash flow back from my electricity company. Yes, they will pay money for energy generation after one year. Considering I use less than 500 kWh per month, it will be probably a nicely sizeable check with a 5kW battery... Yea!

mustangs: that's what I've been saying for a long time. When people realize how hard it is to generate energy esp. that they waste thoughtlessly, maybe they won't be so much into wasting it.

For once somebody slapped down the NIMBIES. Keep putting them down, the further the better. If they keep appealing the decisions, cut them off the grid and let them use treadmills to make their own power. It would be good for those that are overweight - no carbon emissions and they would lose a heck of a lot of fat.

How about a Nuclear Power Plant, or Coal fired, or other Fossil Fuel. Look this seems like a drop in the bucket for their power needs, but every drop does count. GREENIES; paint the towers to look like bark, then hug them.

Wind farms are great. Just NIMBY. They don't look great and apparently people are affected by vibrations from the turning blades.

Just like the cell tower battles a decade ago. The NIMBY's don't see the big picture. They can't deal with any changes to their little world.

It's nice to see the "greens" take a whipping in court once in a while.

While most greens are well intentioned, opposition to wind power, reusable and safe, is misplaced advocacy.

You go, Maine Supreme Court!

Finally a judge with enough common sense to see the greater good of something rather than bow to the cries of some group.

Hope it sets a precedent! We need clean, renewable power, now!
